Implementation

How long does an ERPNext implementation take? A realistic timeline

From discovery to go-live: what happens in each phase of an ERPNext implementation and how long a small, mid-size or complex rollout really takes.

The honest answer is: it depends on scope. But most projects fall into one of three patterns.

Small business: 4–8 weeks

Single company, Accounting, Selling, Buying and Stock, clean opening balances and light customization.

Mid-size: 2–4 months

Adds manufacturing or HR & payroll, multiple warehouses, approval workflows and one or two integrations.

Complex: 4–9 months, phased

Multi-company or multi-country, heavy integrations, custom apps and significant historical data.

The phases

  1. Discovery — workshops with every department.
  2. Design — a blueprint mapping processes to standard ERPNext.
  3. Configure & build — setup on staging plus only the customizations that pay off.
  4. Migrate — masters and opening balances, reconciled.
  5. Test & train — UAT and role-based training.
  6. Go-live & hypercare — planned cut-over and 30 days of close support.
The biggest factor in timeline is not the software — it is how quickly decisions and clean data are available.
